Welcome The Elliot Foundation Academies Trust is the education charity that runs the school and is responsible for the governance of the school.
The Covid-19 Scheme of Delegation sets out the delegated powers during the public health emergency with local governance suspended at the present time.
Later this academic year and in line with the resinstigation of all national accountability measures we will look to resume local governance. Local representatives (pupils, parents, staff and the wider community) will be supported to form a Community Council to provide local knowledge, understanding and expertise around ethos, curriculum and well being on behalf of the community that the school serves.
Please contact the Director of Governance and Policy if there are any questions about the governance of the school or Trust – jem.shuttleworth@elliotfoundation.co.uk

I am a mother of four children, three of which studied at Shireland Hall Primary Academy. I have been a Further Education lecturer for fifteen years and graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Master in Education. I am currently a Team Leader in Childhood Studies at Sandwell College. I have a passion for teaching and learning. I also understand children with additional needs as I served as Chair of Curriculum for Priestly Smith School for the blind and partially sighted for ten years. I live in the local area, am compassionate to the needs of the community and understand the barriers our children and families may face. For the past few years, I have been Vice Chair of the IMAN Interfaith Muslim Action Network and recently appointed as Director for Rights and Equality, Sandwell.

Ms. Melinda Connelly | ||
Vice Chair/Elliot Foundation Governor
I have been on the board of governors for about 5 years, starting off as a governor of Shireland Hall Primary before it federated with George Betts Primary. I am the regional head of a national charity that supports not-for-profit organisations working with disadvantaged children and young people. I also sit on the board of an equalities charity based in Birmingham. My role on the board of governors is both challenging and rewarding, and what I value about the two academies is that they clearly put the children at the heart of all of their decisions, and are committed to enabling the children to achieve and reach their potential.

Mr. Manjit Johal | ||
Elliot Foundation Governor
Governing for Shireland Hall Primary and George Betts Primary Academies is an opportunity that I am enthused about. As a newly appointed governor, I’m looking forward to using my teaching and management experience gained over the past thirteen years.Currently, I’m a lecturer and a team leader for ESOL (English for Speakers of Others Language) at Sandwell College. Leading my ESOL team has been a fantastic experience and one which has been recognised externally, as we were awarded ‘Outstanding’ from OFSTED in 2014. I’m proud of our achievement as we are one of the few outstanding ESOL teams in the country. Outside of the classroom, I have organised activities to help enrich the life experience of my ESOL learners which has included visits to major UK cities, residential visits to London, Paris, and Oxford.I enjoy interacting with learners and recently have started working alongside learners with special educational needs (SEN). I mentor-trainee teachers and am an active member of cross-college groups including the multi-faith and disability groups. In 2009 I won a STAR award from the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), a nationally recognised teaching award. I was nominated by my peers for the Teaching, Training and Learning Practitioner category.Prior to my teaching career, I worked in industry and graduated with a BA (Hons) in Business & Marketing Communications from the University of Greenwich.

Mr. Allan Shephard | ||
Executive Principal (Shireland Hall Primary Academy and George Betts Primary Academy)
I have worked for the Federation since February 2012 as Principal of George Betts and since September 2015 as Executive Principal of both schools. Prior to this role, I was Sandwell’s Primary Maths advisor and Lead Primary advisor for School Improvement, both of which have served me very well to support George Betts on their journey from the lowest performing school in Sandwell to one of the highest. I greatly enjoy working with both schools, bringing life to the curriculum, support to the families and, most importantly, encouraging the children to be the best that they can be.

Mr. Kelvin Kay | ||
Staff Governor (Shireland Hall)
I have been a Staff Governor for approximately 9 years. I work at Shireland Hall as a site manager and my role on the Governing Body is as Staff Governor. My previous job involved working as an electrician in a foundry, where I worked for 40 years! I feel privileged to work at Shireland Hall, and as Governor I can see all the hard work and time the staff put into the children and families of our community, how the budget is spent on teaching and learning resources and how the children learn on their journey to adulthood.
I became a parent governor to support the school in achieving it’s aim, invest in the learning and development of children and get involved in the community. I have two sons who are currently enjoying the education experiences offered by George Betts Primary Academy. This makes me supportive of the work and vision of the school. As a parent governor I feel I could become part of the school team and more importantly a voice for the parents.
