The Governors of Shireland Hall Primary School and George Betts Primary School, recently applied to move to academy status. The move will create a partnership with The Elliot Foundation who will act as sponsor for the new academies. This decision was based on our commitment to create more opportunities for you and your children and to raise standards in the community.
The desired sponsor, The Elliot Foundation, is a charitable multi-academy trust, which understands and focuses exclusively on the unique role of primary education in improving the life chances of all children. Its overall aims are to ensure that every learner achieves their full potential and goes on to make a positive contribution to the community. The sponsor is committed to raising standards and high performance from all the schools it is involved with. More information on The Elliot Foundation can be found at www.elliotfoundation.co.uk .
Academies are publicly funded independent local schools that provide a first class free education. Academies provide a teaching and learning environment that is in line with the best in the maintained sector and offer a broad and balanced curriculum to pupils of all abilities, as well as providing the best opportunities for the most able pupils and those needing additional support.
The key motivation for this change is that it will enable us to benefit from academy freedoms and flexibilities to innovate, raise standards and help children achieve more. It will also mean that funding is received directly from central government. This will enable us to provide the curriculum and resources that best meet the needs of our children and the aspirations of our local community. The Elliot Foundation will bring an in depth educational knowledge and experience to support the school in driving up standards to ensure each child reaches their potential.
An important aspect to the academy process is consulting with pupils, parents, staff and the wider community. We will be hosting consultation events at the schools, which will be an opportunity for the sponsors to gather your opinions on the proposals. A consultation leaflet, which gives further information, and a questionnaire are available to download here.
