Our Health Day was a resounding success last Friday, with all classes participating in a range of activities over the course of a week. We held an open Friday afternoon session where all parents were invited in to find out what their children had been learning about.
The children studied Iceland, one of the healthiest countries in the world, and found out facts about the Icelandic diet and way of life. They also carried out an investigation into the amount of sugar that was present in a range of popular snacks and drinks. Finally the children prepared a range of fruit and vegetables in order to try them with their parents as possible snack alternatives.
Over the last few weeks the children have been running laps of the field so that we can actually run the 1800 km distance from Birmingham to Reykjavik the capital of Iceland. What a fantastic achievement! Meanwhile, Mr White has also begun to develop our garden and Year 5 children are now growing a wide range of healthy home-grown fruit and vegetables. We have also registered for the RHS Campaign for schools. There are 5 stages to complete and with a bit of hard work, we hope to win some garden goodies such as vouchers, plants, seeds, books and certificates for the children. Watch this space!
